Prof. Amitava Chattopadhyay

Professor Chattopadhyay is an expert on how firms can understand and respond to consumers, build strong brands which have a purpose, and drive innovation while creating social impact.

Over the past four decades he has published more than 80 articles in leading international journals and proceedings. His research has appeared in leading journals like the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, Journal of Consumer Psychology, Marketing Science, Management Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, and Long-Range Planning. He has also published over 30 pedagogical cases that have been widely adopted around the world, including a recent VR case .

Professor Chattopadhyay has been the recipient of the Robert Ferber Award and a finalist for the O’Dell Award. His book entitled The New Emerging Market Multinationals: Four Strategies for Disrupting Markets and Building Brands was recognized as ‘The Best Business Book for 2012’; by Strategy + Business. He has also won several awards for his case studies, including the Global Best-Selling Case award in 2022 from the Case Centre. He is a Senior Fellow at the NBS Center for Emerging Markets. He has served as a member of the Association for Consumer Research’s Board of Directors.

Aside from teaching in degree programs, Professor Chattopadhyay has taught and directed executive programs in Europe, The Americas, Australia, Asia, and Africa. He has spoken at numerous industry conferences and corporate events on topics such as building a customer centric organization, creating purpose driven brands, and driving strategic corporate social responsibility for profit and social impact at scale. He is on the advisory boards of several organizations and a consultant to multinational firms.

Professor Chattopadhyay holds a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, a PGDM from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a B.Sc. (Honours) degree from Jadavpur University, India.
