Jagdish Sheth School of Management (JAGSoM) hosted the 11th AIM-AMA Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium, in partnership with the American Marketing Association (AMA) Sheth Foundation and the Academy of Indian Marketing.
From December 20th to 23rd, 2023, the JAGSoM Bengaluru Campus hosted a gathering of global marketing scholars. The inaugural session of the consortium was held on December 20, 2023. Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, Director, JAGSoM welcomed the participants and resource faculty. Mr. Sanjay Padode, Chairman. CDE extended the felicitations. Prof. Jagdish Sheth participated in the inaugural session and delivered the inaugural address.
The consortium served as a hub for exchanging ideas, encouraging fresh perspectives, and conducting in-depth investigations in Marketing. Bringing together over 45 renowned academicians from different parts of the world, it offered the doctoral students the opportunities to learn from these respected mentors. Furthermore, it fostered connections among students enabling them to network among peers, engage with seasoned professors, and seek guidance for their research pursuits.
During the event, distinguished faculty members led Master Classes in the areas such as Consumer research & Social well-being, Modelling and empirical research, Strategic marketing, and Qualitative consumer behaviour research. Participants took part in specialized Global Cafés, based on their research interests, where they received guidance from globally recognized mentors overseen by Prof. Denish Shah. The program also featured Plenary and parallel tracks hosting sessions that tackled crucial topics including Bringing relevance versus rigor in research, Consumer behaviour, Brand management. Digital marketing, Editor meetings, Academic career guidance, Manuscript composition, among others. A pivotal Director’s panel, moderated by Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, Director JAGSoM, included three more Directors of prominent Indian management institutions, namely Dr. Asit K Barma, Director – BIM Trichy, Dr. K S Venugopal Rao, Director – IBS Hyderabad, and Dr. Vishal Talwar, Director – IMT Ghaziabad, engaging in a discussion on “Institutional expectations from young PhDs.” The panel deliberated on the key questions of faculty recruitment, engagement and retention; balance of research, teaching and institution building work; and the tenure of young faculty members; among others.
The event concluded with research development workshops, featuring esteemed speakers such as Prof. Adithya Pattabhiramaiah from The Scheller College of Business, The Georgia Institute of Technology, USA, Prof. Denish Shah, Robinson College of Business, Georgia state university, Prof. Amaresh Sharma, Mays Business School, Texas A & M University and Practitioners such as Ms. Gayatri Chauhan, Mr. Angshuman Ghosh. They addressed multifaceted aspects of research, from multi-method approaches, using empirical methods, managing revision processes, and developing breakthrough research ideas.
Co-chaired by Dr. A. Parasuraman, Dr. Denish Shah, and Dr. Atish Chattopadhyay, this exclusive consortium offered a platform for doctoral candidates to engage with global mentors, forge peer connections, and contribute significantly to the marketing domain. The event played its role as a catalyst for innovation and collaboration within the marketing discipline.

The AMA-Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium is the premiere consortium in the marketing discipline. Consortium, beginning in 1966, has brought together the very best doctoral students and faculty from business schools around the world to share in a three-four day event, exposing doctoral students to a rich diversity of topics, methodological perspectives, and theories. The AMA-Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortium is designed to spark creativity and insight by challenging students to think outside of their existing paradigms and to broaden their views on what constitutes excellent quality research. The Consortium helps students make a successful transition to their first faculty position by providing guidance on research, teaching, and service. Students interact with faculty scholars who have made important contributions to the field and who are dedicated to helping students become the next generation of leaders in the marketing discipline.
ABOUT ACADEMY OF INDIAN MARKETING
Founded in 2009, the Academy of Indian Marketing (AIM) is a consortium of leading management institutions offering world-class management education and research activities through doctoral and equivalent programs. AIM was conceived by two marketing scholars in two different continents. Dr. Jagdish Sheth (Atlanta, USA) and Prof. Neelemegham (India).
With Dr. Sheth and Prof. Neelamegham at the helm, deans, and directors of India’s top-rated business schools/institutions were convinced that a common platform was a boon to nurture the research activities in the Marketing domain, leading to the formation of AIM.
